In Conversation With CA Siddharth Jain

When did you qualify CA Final exams
Nov 2020

At what age you became CA (Asked by majority students)

What was your biggest source of inspiration for doing CA course
Parents, God and Proving myself

Have you done CA by Foundation Route or Direct Entry Route
CA Foundation Route

What was the biggest challenge you faced in your entire CA Journey

The Struggle: You have to fight your battle alone No one will come to save you You will have all the negative feelings in the world It is part of the process which can not be avoided People even do not pick up calls in bad times Only your parents are there to support you Maximum 2-3 close friends are there No one will value you until you complete your CA no matter what you say
Learnings : You are solely responsible for your own life If you depend upon people, you will be disappointed 100% of the time Even if you fail, no one really cares Have the courage to let the bad time pass Keep yourself strong As we all know, we can not take anything for granted I used to think that I would clear CA with a Rank in the first attempt But things happen at a certain point of time and in a certain manner

How important is the role of coaching classes in CA course (Is it manageable to become CA completely by self study - what's your take)
I did my schooling from Tohana, a small city in Haryana. I chose commerce because Science and Math was not my cup of tea and there is nothing else we can take, also I was interested in the business side which we can very much relate with commerce. So, I got 91 percent in my boards which is not landing me in any good college in DU. The other option which was left is to give CPT without completely knowing what actually CA is I gave my CPT and passed Then I moved to Delhi for IPCC coaching, it was a very tough schedule to go on for the next 9 months We used to had classes from morning 6 am to even 10 pm at some days But CA teachers motivated us so much that it never felt like studying so hard Then I also passed IPCC in first attempt.
Coming to CA Final, I gave my first attempt in November 2018 in which i badly failed that i could got 200 out of 800 I guess. Then in May 2019, I was short of some marks to get the aggregate then in Nov 2019, I cleared Group 2.
And in Nov 2020, I cleared Group 1 as May 2020 did not happen due to covid

How you found the right firm for your articleship - what process you followed and what role reference played in your selection
The struggle to get the articleship began after I cleared CA IPCC. I always used to listen in classes that Getting a articleship at a big firm is very difficult. So, I started sending my resume to every other firm. I had no connections in big4 at that point of time.
So, after a lot of struggle I ended up being in Luthra and Luthra Chartered Accountants in Delhi. But I struggled there to work due to work timings or the kind of work i was given. I could not relate myself to that. Then after working there for 2 months and taking a transfer from Luthra, I joined Deloitte in the Global Business Tax Department. So, it went well. Initially 2-3 months, i took to understand the work and culture because it was all different from Luthra or other smaller firms. Then for 1.5 years it went pretty well for me.

What work you learned in CA Articleship
I used to go to Tax offices like Civic center or CR building many times along with my manager or team. We used to work on giving opinions on matters related to Royalty, FTS etc. Infact what I felt was that unlike other articles, We were more focused on the bigger things than the basic things like filing a simple ITR. We were more inclined in reading the case laws and understanding the meaning of it and searching in different Tax books. Then I had to move to my Hometown to do my remaining articleship there itself due to some health and family reasons.

What final advice you would like to give to budding CA aspirants which they should take care of in their CA Journey
Never give up.
Guidance : If you really want to qualify, do not leave any question. I used to do all the questions in the RTP, MTP and past year suggested answers. Because you fear that God knows which question might come in the exam. There are students who are stuck in this course since 10-15 years.
