May 2018

At what age you became CA (Asked by majority students)
22

What was your biggest source of inspiration for doing CA course
My Uncle

Have you done CA by Foundation Route or Direct Entry Route
CA Foundation Route

What was the biggest challenge you faced in your entire CA Journey
The biggest challenge was to manage Articleship and Studies. I cleared CPT with a distinction after preparing for 2 months. The whole journey went beautiful and during my Articleship with Gupta Gupta & Associates, I got the opportunity to handle audits which really helped me during my Interview Phase. My Articleship gave me rich and diverse experience of Taxation Work, Tax Audits, Concurrent Audits of Banks. I still remember juggling with Outstation Audits and Tuitions. Finally, I got 4 months leave for CA Finals and I cleared Chartered Accountancy in my 1st attempt with 85 Marks in Financial Reporting (FR), 71 Marks in ISCA and 70 Marks in DT & IDT.

How important is the role of coaching classes in CA course (Is it manageable to become CA completely by self study - what's your take)
For me, some amount of guidance is required to clear CA exams as it is a correspondence course. However, I didn’t feel coaching helped me a lot, especially in theory subjects. So, my take would be to take coaching only for relevant subjects that you feel require guidance. Nowadays with ample amount of online resources, there is no need of Formal Coaching environment.

How you found the right firm for your articleship - what process you followed and what role reference played in your selection
Yes, I worked with Gupta, Gupta & Associates. It was a mid sized firm with diverse clients. I interviewed in that firm with their managing partner. There was no role of reference when I applied for that firm.

What work you learned in CA Articleship
I got the opportunity to handle audits of Head Office and Various Units of NHPC, Central Statutory Audit of J&K Bank, United Bank, Corporate Office of Chenab Valley Power Project, Revenue Audit of Punjab and Sindh Bank (PSB), J&K Bank, Stock Audits of NHPC, Chenab Valley Power Project (CVPP), TRG (Construction Company) etc. which really helped me during my Interview Phase. My Articleship gave me rich and diverse experience of Taxation Work, Tax Audits, Concurrent Audits of Canara Bank, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Central Bank, UCO Bank, Allahabad Bank, United Bank, Revenue Audits, Central Statutory Audits etc

Have you applied for CA Industrial Training - If Yes please write about the process of getting selected into the same
No

How you prepared for CA Foundation, Intermediate & Final
I took coaching for all the phases of CA from different coaching Centers. I studied alone as I am not comfortable with group studies. I revised for each subject atleast 3-4 times. I cleared all the phases of CA in my First Attempt.

Are you doing Practice, Job or Business
I am currently doing job

How you got your first job - Journey in short (was it easy)
My first job was with Vedanta Resources Plc as a Management Trainee. I gave Interviews alongwith my MCS in Gurugram and I was selected with Yes Bank, Protiviti, Kpmg etc. Finally came the day of ICAI Campus Placement in Delhi where I was shortlisted for ITC, Hero Moto Corp, Vedanta, Barclays, EY, HCL & Genpact in Day 0 and Day 1. That was one the most beautiful days of my life. I got selected with Vedanta, Barclays and EY. I didn’t go to Day 1 as I finally accepted Offer Letter from Vedanta Resources Plc. (Their eligibility criteria is First Attempt in CA throughout and Above 60% in 10th, 12th, Graduation, CA ) and from thereon started another Beautiful Chapter of my life.
